Emma Stone won't make a joke about Taylor Swift again after Golden Globes quip backfired

Emma Stone and Taylor Swift have been friends since 2008, so of course, they’re going to share a joke or too here and there. However, the Poor Things actress has vowed to never make a joke about the singer again after her Golden Globes one went down like a lead balloon with some Swifties…

In 2008, Taylor Swift and Emma Stone met at the Young Hollywood Awards. Ever since they have attended a number of events together. Most recently, the Love Story singer was seen cheering loudly for her friend as she won best actress in a musical or comedy for Poor Things.

Emma Stone ‘won’t make Taylor Swift joke again’

At a backstage press conference at the awards show, Stone was asked about her friend, as audiences saw her ecstatically cheering over her win.

Emma then joked: “What an a*******. “I’ve known her for almost 20 years. I was very happy she was there and she was also nominated tonight, which was wonderful. And yes, what an a*****.”

Although most fans knew she was joking, many defensive Swifites online seemed to get offended by the joke.

“I definitely won’t make a joke like that again,” the 35-year-old told Variety.  I saw headlines that really pulled it out of context,” she said, before pointing at herself and exclaiming: “What a dope.”

Stone won the award for playing Bella Baxter in the hit Comedy/Sci-Fi movie, whereas Swift was nominated for cinematic and box office achievement, for her Eras Tour concert film. However, the award went to Barbie.

The actress calls Swift a ‘wonderful friend’

Despite what some fans may have thought after the Globes, the two are extremely close friends, and in June, Stone called the music icon a “wonderful friend.”

After attending the record-breaking Era’s tour, the La La Land star told Vanity Fair: “The concert was pretty amazing. “I was lucky ’cause we’ve been friends for a really long time,” she told the publication before revealing the Cruel Summer singer had ‘hooked her up’ with tickets that were “impossible to get.”

“She’s a wonderful friend,” the actress added.

Emma went viral on TikTok after the concert in her home state Arizona, as she was seen ‘going wild’ to the hit You Belong With Me.
